Low Cost, Low Power, Current-Reuse CG-LNA for 3-5 GHz IR-UWB in 90nm CMOS

A fully differential cross-coupled common-gate low noise amplifier (CG-LNA) is proposed in digital 90nm CMOS for 3-5 GHz non-coherent impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) receivers. By adopting the current reuse positive feedback and stack inductors, the gain, linearity, and chip area are improved in a large proportion. ESD and package are jointly optimized for the input matching. A 5-6-GHz tunable active notch filter is employed to block WLAN interferers, and improve the IIP3 to 2.3dBm at 5.1GHz. The proposed CG-LNA achieves the NF < 3.2dB, |S11| < -10dB, voltage gain>22dB, costs 2.3mW at 1V supply voltage, and occupies 0.047mm2 chip area.
