Band-Notched UWB Printed Monopole Antenna Fed by Tapered Coplanar Waveguide
A printed monopole antenna is presented for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The proposed antenna is composed of a slit semicircular patch and a tapered coplanar waveguide (CPW), which are etched onto a FR4 printed circuit board (PCB) with the overall size of 30 mm× 30 mm× 1.5 mm. By embedding a simple arc-shaped slot in the patch, a notched frequency band can be realized. The characteristics of the proposed antenna are investigated by using the software, HFSS and validated experimentally, the results show that the proposed antenna achieves a measured impedance bandwidth of 8 GHz (3.1-11.1 GHz) for VSWR≤2 with a band rejection over the frequency range of 4.9-5.9 GHz. A relatively stable gain and boresight radiation patterns are also achieved across the entire operating frequency band. Furthermore, the notched-band characteristics of the antenna can be controlled simply by adjusting the radius and width of the arc-shaped slot.
