A Novel Printed UWB Antenna Using Spline-Fit Fractal Boundary
A novel printed ultra-wideband(UWB) antenna comprising amended rectangular patch and microstrip feed line printed on a FR-4(r ε=4.4, t=1.6mm) dielectric substrate is presented. The fractal boundary based Spline-Fit-Koch(SFK) structure is introduced for multiple well matched-band and miniaturization with effective space-filling characteristics. Meanwhile, the Spline-Fit partial ground plane(SFPGP) is also introduced to improve the impedance matching for wide band. The proposed antenna shows a wide impedance bandwidth about 123% from 3GHz to 12.5GHz with return loss less than -10dB, and a stable antenna gain level of around 4.5dBi, with high radiation efficiency above 90% is obtained over all required operation band. Details of antenna design parameters which affect the whole performance of antenna are intensively investigated. A constructed prototype is potential candidate for UWB wireless communication system.
