Cross-layer Design of Stability-based Adaptive Routing Mechanism for UWB Indoor Networks
Ultra wideband (UWB) technology is supposed to be a promising candidate for mobile Ad-Hoc networks in short range scenarios. In this paper we propose a stability-based adaptive routing (SAR) mechanism for indoor UWB networks, which is a cross-layer enhancement of Ad-Hoc on-demand vector (AODV) routing. A stability-based route metric is investigated in consideration of the distribution of links’ quality. Considering the inefficiency of fixed-threshold based preemptive routing, we propose an adaptive preemptive route maintenance algorithm to achieve seamless route handoff by accommodating node movement. Simulation results show that the SAR mechanism demonstrates greater adaptability to node movement than the fixed-threshold based preemptive routing algorithm, and outperforms them in terms of packet delivery ratio and end-toend delay.
