Investigation on Large Power Drive System with AC-DC-AC Converter for Rolling Mill
The performance of the large power AC drive system for rolling mills should meet the need of production technology and adapt to the requirement of the electric netwoik. AC-AC converters have been successfully applied in the large power main drives for rolling mills being low speed and large torque. But in the drive systems for cold rolling mills being high speed, AC-DC-AC converter systems should be used. In the paper, the large power three-level AC-DC-AC converter system with IC-CTs is introduced.And the switching process of IG-GT is considered.Then with a series of experiments,the property of the converter is examined, The experiment result indicates the converter reaches the design requirement and it shows excellent performance. The three-level AC-DC-AC converter system with IC-CTs whose rated power is 7. 5MVA has been developed and put into use. And it is estimated that the AC-DC-AC converter system will be used in the drive for rolling mills in the near future.
