Experimental Study of Flood Discharge through a High Arch Dam
Flood discharge is one of the key problems in high dam projects. In China, many high dam projects have the following characteristics: high water head, large discharge and narrow river channel. In this paper, first, the 3-D flow fields in a plunge pool was simulated by the turbulence mathematical model and measured by the five-hole Pitot sphere combined with the pressure sensors and automatic data sampling and processing system; second, we developed a new type of flood discharge through a high arch dam, i. e. , contracting dissipa-tors with flaring gate piers in top spillways and slit-type buckets in middle orifices, and tested the design in a physical model of high-arch dam; finally, the influence of aeration on jet scour was investigated experimentally.
