Study on Big Scale Ratio (1:10) Hydraulic Model Test on Energy Dissipater of Bypass for Water Supply for a Reservoir in Iran

The variable frequency and constant pressure water supplywas applied in a big scale ratio (1 ! 10) hydraulic model test on energy dissipater of bypass for water supply for a reservoir in Iran. The model simulated headrace tunnel, needle valve, energy dissipation box, tailrace surge chamber and tailrace tunnel, observed and measured such hydraulic parameters of energy dissipater as discharge, velocity, flow pattern, pressure and flow profiles at various reservoir water levels and openings of the needles valve, analyzed the dissipater style, cavitations and erosion for the flow of high velocity, studied the flow patterns in the tailrace surge chamber. The results shown that hydraulic characteristics of energy dissipation box are favorable, which meet the demand of this project. All the characteristics of turbulent pressure are conventional, which are normal probability distribution and have favorable time correlativity. The preponderant frequencies are low, and the standard deviations of turbulent pressure are small that meets the demand of the project. Meanwhile a vertical dissipation grid is used in the surge chamber to improve energy dissipation efficiency, a large number air bubbles was avoided to enter the taiirace tunnels, the water surface in surge chamber was stabilized effectively and demand of the project was satisfied.
