Study on Lock Part-Diverging Filling and Emptying System

A new lock part-diverging filling and emptying system is put forward based on analyses on end filling and emptying system and diverging filling and emptying system. Its diverging section is arranged in upstream lock head and partial lock chamber. It is applicable for ship locks whose distinguishing coefficient for types of filling and emptying system is 2. 5 to 3. 5. The layouts and hydraulic characteristics of two schemes are introduced in this article. The layout of its energy dissipation should be designed according to demands of diverging filling and emptying system. And the length of its diverging section in chamber should be designed based on initial wave force Physical modeling studies indicate that its hydraulic characteristics during lock filling are between end filling system and diverging filling system. And this type of lock filling and emptying system can reduce the wave force coefficient, raise the initial valve opening speed, shorten the filling and emptying times and has no need for mitigative segment like diverging filling and emptying system except the merits of cost saving and convenient construction similar to end filling and emptying system. It is a fine filling and emptying system type suitable for middle head ship locks.
