Velocity Profiles and Flow Resistances of Open-Channel Flows over Gravel Beds
An experimental study of the velocity profiles and flow resistances of uniform open-channel flows over gravel beds under different bed slopes and flow rates is reported. The measured vertical profiles of the mean stre-amwise velocity follow the modified log law and the vertical profiles of the turbulence intensity follow the exponential function proposed by Nezu and Rodi. The roughness length scale (k,) is found to increases with the bed slope (So). Using the slope dependent k,, the Darcy resistance function exhibits a log relationship with the relative submergence, and the roughness parameter n/k5 1/6 is roughly a constant.
