SIMULATION FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT WWTP

At present, activated sludge model has greatvalue and can be used to improve the study,design and optimumoperation of wastewater treatment around the world. It has beenapplied widely in the world.In this paper,the application andcalibration of Activated Sludge Model No.l in the practicalwastewater treatment plant had been implemented. Thecharacterization and parameter of the outfluent from therotational flow grit chamber had been measured in the WWTP.The actual operation procedure is simulated in case of bothsteady and dynamic status using simulation software named asWEST, which is from DHI. Where after different simulationanalysis is done to analyses the problems exist in this factory, andhence based on the analysis result, the optimized suggestion isarised.The result shows that the method of characterization andparameter in this paper can is practical. The heterotrophic yieldcoefficient YH, Heterotrophic max specific growth rate μmax,heterotrophic decay rate bH, readily biodegradable substrate Ssand slowly biodegradable substrate XS could be characterized bythe method of batch OUR respirometric experiments which issimple to calculate, and especially the outcome date is stable.TheWEST software was used to simulate the real operation of theWWTP,the result shows that using the combination of testmensuration and model calibration, good simulation results wereachieved though changing of the model parameters.Theactivated sludge model which was promoted by the IAWQ can beused as a useful tool in operation management, technicalimprovement and scientific research in WWTPs. NeverthelessWEST software which was based on the activated sludge modelcould simulate the performance of activated sludge process and provide valuable advices for directing WWTPs.
