Kinetics of Tetra-(p-carboxyphenyl) Cobalt Porphyrin Chloride Reactions with Peroxynitrite
Peroxynitrite is a highly reactive oxidant that has beenimplicated in a number of serious human diseases includingcardiopathy, acute inflammation and cancer. The decompositionof peroxynitrite can be promoted efficiently bymetalloporphyrins and are therefore important to detoxify thecytotoxic oxidant as therapeutic agents. A novel cobalt porphyrinwas synthesized to investigate the scavenging effect onperoxynitrite decomposition. Kinetics of peroxynitritedecomposition in the presence of cobalt porphyrin wasinvestigated by UV-Vis spectrophotometer and stopped flowinstrument. The kinetic experiments reveal that cobalt porphyrincould accelerate the decomposition of peroxynitrite and thecatalytic ability is improved with the increasing concentration ofcobalt porphyrin. The study is helpful to develop more effectivescavengers of peroxynitrite in order to treat related diseases.
