Multipotential Capacity of Human Adipose-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Adipose tissue is derived from the embryonicmesenchyme and can be isolated easily. The purpose of this studywas to investigate the multipotent ability of adipose-derivedmesenchymal stem cells and to investigate the molecularcharacterization of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cellsduring chondrogenic differentiation in vitro. Our results showedthat adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells have the ability todifferentiate into adipogenic, osteogenic, and chondrogenic cellswith adipogenic, osteogenic, and chondrogenic medium in vitro. The expression of chondrogenic related molecules were detectedby RT-PCR analysis during chondrogenic differentiation. Thesestudies demonstrate that human adipose-derived mesenchymalstem cells have the multipotentiality and adipose tissue mayrepresent a novel approach to form tissue engineering cartilageto heal the damage cartilage.
