Facile Gold-coated Maghemite Nanoparticles Fabrication
The maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were obtainedvia high temperature pyrolysis with the precursor of magnetitethat was synthesized via chemical coprecipitation. Then the (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) was used for the surfacefunctionalization ofγ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles. Finally the gold-coatedmaghemite (γ-Fe2O3/Au) nanoparticles are prepared viasonochemical synthesis of a solution mixture of hydrochloroauricacid (HAuCl4) and APTES-coatedγ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles withfurther drop-addition of sodium citrate. Theγ-Fe2O3/Aunanoparticles were characterized by X-ray powder diffractionelectron microscopy (TEM) and superconducting quantumninteference devices (SQUID). Theγ-Fe2O3/Au nanoparticles withdouble properties of magnetism and colloidal gold may haveintensive application in immunology, biochemistry, biomedicaland molecular biology.
