An Electronic Nose System Based on An Array of Carbon Nanotubes Gas Sensors with Pattern Recognition Techniques

This paper presents design of an electronicnose based on an array of aligned multi-walled carbonnanotubes (MWNT) ionization gas sensors and patternrecognition techniques for gas detection. The raw data,including discharge voltages and currents, is acquired bymeasurement of sensor array response and transformedto the computer by peripheral circuit, and processed byPrincipal Components Analysis (PCA). Back-propagationneural networks (BPNN) are applied to determine gasvarieties. Results demonstrate the developed electronicnose system is capable to identify target gases successfullyand is promising for field applications.
