Screening of antibiotic-maggot serum combinations and their effects on bacterial physiology

Maggots are known for their anti-microbial propertiesin chronic wound healing. This paper presents researchinvestigating the effects of maggot metabolites in combinationwith ciprofloxacin against Staphylococcus aureus. The screeningprocess used was a microchannel-based separation and mixingsystem. The results demonstrate that for similar levels of efficacy, the partial substitution with the maggot metabolite muted theadoption of antibiotic resistance by the bacteria.
