2-D FFT for Periodic Noise Removal on Strain Image
Elastography is a non-invasive method in whichstiffness of soft tissue is displayed as strain images to assist indetecting or classifying tumors. External tissue compressioncauses axial displacements which are subsequently computedand converted to strain. However, in this processing, periodicartifacts often corrupt the image quality severely. This paperpresents a 2-D FFT removal algorithm for reducing suchartifacts in ultrasonic strain imaging. Because the periodicpattern of the artifacts, we apply the 2-D FFT in the strain imageto extract and remove the peaks which are corresponding toartifacts in the frequency domain. Computer simulations and invitro testing demonstrate our proposed method performs quitewell in removing strain image artifacts.
