An Image-Guided Navigation System for Mandibular Angle Surgery
In this paper, a computer-aided surgical 3Dplanning and real-time navigation system (Navi-CMFS) wasdeveloped to improve the accuracy and reliability of themandibular angle restoration. This system integrates 3Dmedical modeling, 3D pre-operative surgical planning andintra-operative real-time navigation, which enabling thesurgeon to locate the continually updated position of theinstruments and the patient in the operating room, avoiding tohurt the inferior alveolar nerves, minimizing surgical risks andoptimizing clinical results. Clinical studies were conducted onfour patients with mandibular angles malformation. Theaverage distance deviations between the planning andpost-operation model (system precision) were 1.725mm. Theresults show that this system provided a more accurate andeffective method than conventional surgery in mandibularangle surgery.
