Preliminary study on processing local field potential with smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution for epileptic seizure detection
In this paper, we initiatively employ the local field potential (LFP) signal recorded from epileptic patients in hospital, for the seizure detection instead of the traditional use of EEG signals. The time-frequency analysis, particularly the smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville (SPWV) distribution, is applied to process the LFP signal and to determine the start and end time of epileptic seizure. We found that the “ridge-like feature in the joint time-frequency domain is correlated to the seizure. Then we use the criteria to find the time of seizure and compare them with the actual event time. The results show that this processing method is suitable to build new criteria to detect and analyze abnormal LFP and the close-loop epileptic stimulation therapy.
