Preliminary study on the mutagenic effects of space flight on pepper seeds
To analyze the biological effects of space flight on pepper seed, the cytological effects of SP1, SP2, and SP3 generations of pepper Ⅲ-31 lines after space flight were studied. Cytogenetic analyses were performed as the frequency of chromosomal aberrations assay and mitotic index (MI). The results showed that the space environment can increase the mitotic index, and induce different chromosomal aberrations including micronuclei, chromosomal bridges, fragments, laggards, and multipolar division etc. The highest mitotic index and rate of chromosomal aberrations were found in Ⅲ-31-SP2(P < 0.01).
