Adsorption behavior of methylene blue dye on rice husk

Mainly containing organic materials, the printing and dyeing wastewater is a kind of industrial pollution with complex composition and high colority, which is difficult to be treated. With the large volume of new auxiliary and slurry applied to the modern textile industry, the biodegradability rate of organic pollution decreased and it is more difficult to be treatment. Comprehensively considered the technical, economical, and environmental aspects, adopting rice husk as a biosorbent, methylene blue dye as treating objectives, the new technical on the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater onto rice husk was researched. The main experimental results were indicated that the optimum pH value for the biosorption by rice husk was 7 for methylene blue dye. At room temperature, it took about 70 minutes to achieve the biosorption equilibrium for the methylene blue dye. The biosorption behavior accords with Langmuir isotherm equation. Although the percent removal, under optimized conditions, is higher for laboratory prepared solutions, efficiency is a little less for industrial effluents due to interferent effects.
