Study on the Kinetics in the Adsorption- Biodegradation Anaerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor

The purpose of this work was to investigate the kinetics of the adsorption and biodegradation process in adsorption-biodegradation anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (AB-ASBR). Using the whole milk powder as substrate, the volume loading rate (VLR) of influent was 7.0kgCOD /(m3 ? d) at 35℃. In order to maintain the optimal pH value, NaHCO3 was added into the influent. The experiment indicated that the adsorption process was described well by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with the adsorption capacities of 196.08 mg·g-1 at the adsorption equilibrium and the rate constant (k2) of 1.5× 10-3 g · mg-1 · min-1. During the biodegradation, the saturation constant (Ks) of reactor B was 191.70 mg?L-1, which was far lower than that given in the available literatures. It could be demonstrated that AB-ASBR was quite an effective way to treat the high concentration organic wastewater.
