Study of Regional Differences of Chinas Water and Sanitation Services Supply -Based on the Observation of Provincial Data
As Chinas economy develops and the governments at all levels attach great importance to water supply and sanitation. The problem of insufficient supply has gradually been eased; however, the problem of imbalance has not been obviously solved. The provincial statistical data in 2008 Health Statistics Yearbook shows that there is still a large gap between provinces in water supply and sanitation in China. Water and sanitation improvement is not only one important aspect of “Clean and Tidy Villages, which is a factor of building the new countryside, but also an indispensable component of the basic public health services. At the same time, it is the important indicator of Millennium Development Goals (MDGS), which is the global sustainable development goals widely recognized presently. If the problems are not taken more attention to, they will affect not only farmers’ survival and development, but also the balanced development of the east and west regions. Thus all levels of government should incorporate the improvement of water supply and sanitation into the overall planning of economic and social development, set up a public demand-oriented water and sanitation service model, and takes other measures to promote the equalization of the water supply and sanitation services.
