Observations of Pathomorphology and Antioxidative Function of Brain Tissue in Chickens with Aluminum Exposure Preliminary Study of Aluminum Accumulation on Nervous System in Chickens
The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and concentrations of malondialdehyde (MAD) in cerebrum and cerebellum and pathomorphology of brain tissue were detected in chickens with different levels sub-chronic aluminum (Al) intoxication produced by continuous peritoneal injection of fixed volume and different gradient aluminum trichloride (AlCl3). The results showed that the activities of SOD in cerebrum and cerebellum were lower and the concentrations of MAD was higher in the experimental groups than in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). There was dose-effect relationship between with AlCl3. Swell, atrophy, necrosis and karyopycnosis were observed in cerebrum centrum neurocytes and Purkinje ′s cells of cerebellum by light microscope, which indicated that Al exposure damaged the brain tissue of chickens.
