Study on Health Risk for TiO2 Photocatalytic Degradation of Phenol-polluted Raw Water

Considering that TiO2 photocatalytic degradation of phenol-polluted water will produce intermediates such as catechol and hydroquinone which have high health risk, the distribution characteristic of these intermediates was verified by experiment using self-made photocatalytic reactor, and the health risk degree and mutative rule of the residual phenol and the intermediates were studied, and the best treatment process conditions based on the health risk was determined. The results showed that the health risk of the catechol and the hydroquinone changed with the reaction time and phenol initial concentration when the phenol initial concentration is 0.004mg/L to 0.05mg/L, and the residual phenol and the intermediates achieved simultaneously the health security standard in 48min when phenol initial concentration is less than 0.01mg/L. Therefore, considering technical economy and healthy security, the TiO2 photocatalytic craft is suitable for the slight phenol-polluted raw water, which phenol initial concentration is less than 0.01mg/L, and its optimum reaction time is more than 48min.
