Study on Adsorption of Chitosan and interaction with C12EO5 on Silica
the article intends to introduce the authors’ experimental study on adsorption behaviour of chitosan solution on silica by reflectometry.Effect of pH on adsorption of Chitosan and interaction with non-ionic surfactant on silica has been studied. The adsorbed amount Г was 0.80, 0.35 mg·m-2 at pH6.8 and 6.0, respectively. Zeta potential measurements have been measured in the experiment. Exchanges in surface functionality upon adsorbing C12EO5 on chitosan layer are reported. The results are discussed in terms of adsorption kinetics, adsorbed mass plateau values, and reversibility of the layer formation. The mechanism of the adsorption process are likely to be the electrostatic attraction and entropic origin which is typical for adsorption of strongly charged polyelectrolytes onto oppositely charged surfaces.
