Influence of Iron Content on Activated Sludge Performance in Membrane Bioreactor

Through analyzing the influence of bio-ferric content on activated sludge performance in membrane bioreator(MBR), the results showed: sludge dehydrogenase activity ascended along with bio-ferric content augments in sludge which the influence of bio-ferric content in supernatant was similar as well; while the influence of bio-ferric content on specific oxygen uptake rate(SOUR) was contrary to that on dehydrogenase activity, SOUR of suldge decreased along with bio-ferric content augments in sludge that was due to sludge content increment and sludge flocculus largened which influenced dissolved oxygen (DO) and substrate diffused from reactor mixture into flocculus interior that resulted in oxygen insufficiency in sludge interior, so the oxygen uptake activity of microorganism decreased as well; SOUR of sludge ascended along with bio-ferric content augment in supernatant that was due to sludge performance deterioration because of iron ion augment which resulted in bio-ferric flocculus deflocculation, which made sludge particle smaller and DO ascending that led SOUR of sludge to rise, so the experiment results illustrated that appropriate addition of bio-ferric could make sludge performance optimal.
