Removal of indoor pollutants by nano TiO2/β- cyclodextrin coated paper under UV irradiation
As one of the typical indoor pollutants, formaldehyde has attracted more and more attention. It is well known that long-term exposure to even fairly low levels of formaldehyde will bring the risk of asthma, eczema and other diseases. In this study, the nano-TiO2/β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) coated paper was applied to remove formaldehyde under UV irradiation. The optimum composition of the nano-TiO2/β-CD coated on paper was studied in detail with regard to the efficiency of formaldehyde removal. The results showed that gaseous formaldehyde can be removed by the nano-TiO2/β-CD coated paper with different efficiencies depending upon the different ratios of nano-TiO2 and β-CD in the paint. After 6 h of irradiation, formaldehyde was removed completely by the coated papers with nano-TiO2 and β-CD ratio of 1 to 3. The coated papers could decompose formaldehyde repeatedly after regeneration. This kind of nano-TiO2/β-CD coated paper could be used as air-cleaning materials such as wallpaper to remove various pollutants indoor.
