Protective Effects of Garlic Barbarum Extract Liquid on Lead Acetate Induced Genetic Damage in Mice
By means of the micronucleus (MN) test of the whole mice bone marrow and fetus liver blood, we studied the protective effects of the biological preparation viz. the garlic barbarum extract liquid on lead acetate induced genetic damage of mouse somatic cells. The results showed that ,when the lead acetate in the mice raised to 30 mg/kg (1/4 LD50), the frequency of micronucleus would raise to a high level, and the biological preparation obviously demonstrated its protective effect on animals. After 7 and 14 days drinking freely the garlic barbarum extract liquid, the inhibition rate to the incidences of micronucleus were 68% and 49% respectively. The garlic barbarum extract liquid also had protective effect on lead acetate induced genetic damage in pregnant mice and fetuses. After 20 days drinking the biological preparation, the inhibition rate to the incidences of micronucleus were 50% and 41% respectively. The preliminary research demonstrated that, the garlic barbarum extract liquid had distinctive the anti-saltation effect, and had no the mutagenic activity.
