A Multilevel Analysis of Determinants of Pro-environmental Behavior(PEB) in China
Survey data are used to examine the influence of distinct categories of internal factors (such as attitudes, personal norms, perceived behavior barriers, knowledge) and external factors (such as socioeconomic characteristics, living conditions and situation factors) on citizens pro-environmental behavior. Results from the descriptive Analysis indicate that most of respondents consider the environmental elements from the stand point of their own health and safety instead of caring for the regional environmental and a healthy global environment and they give their priority to the PEB which can gaining economic benefits or saving life expenses. The re-estimated model showed that awareness of the consequence, environmental responsibility, and environmental value influenced behavior intention significantly, but these three factors dont influence PEB directly. There is clearly a gap between environmental concerns and PEB. The PEB are significantly related to behavior intention, knowledge, gender and age.
