SELF-ASSEMBLY OF MULTIPLE-DENDRON-SUBSTITUTED CROWN ETHERS: LIQUID CRYSTALLINE BEHAVIOR AND GELATION

Dendronized crown ether is a new type of molecules with the centre crown ether surrounded by one or more dendrons. The crown ether moiety has a good binding capability to a variety of ions and neutral molecules, while the dendrons have good self-assembly properties. Therefore, the combination of them will bring interesting properties and potential functions to the assembly of dendronized crown ether. Most of the forerunners works focused on monodendritic crown ethers.2 In this work, we have synthesized a series of crown ethers modified with two or four Percecdendrons which imparts the molecule different symmetry. The self-assembly behaviour of these dendronized crown ether in both bulk state and solution were studied and compared.
