TIME-RESOLVED RHEOMETRY DURING SLOW RIPENING OF CTPB/C_(18)-CLAY NANOCOMPOSITE
Non-equilibrium phenomena are pervasive in multicomponent, solid materials throughout the spectrum of materials applications. The internal structure of such manmade solid materials is rarely equilibrated, as they are not given sufficient time to ripen and/or the ripening process arrests before reaching equilibrium due to a free-energy landscape with multiple local minima. The understanding of materials away from equilibrium has been recognized as one of the grand challenges to science and engineering.
