PHASE SEPARATION OF POLYMER BLENDS WITH DYNAMIC ASYMMETRY
Phase separation of polymer blends is of great importance due to its wide application in tailoring the morphology and the properties of polymeric materials. The phase behavior is determined by the molecular weight, molecular weight distribution of polymers and the interactions between polymers in equilibrium state. The molecular weight also affects the dynamics of phase separation through its effect on the mutual diffusion coefficients. In fact, the dynamics of phase separation is determined by the dynamics of polymer chains in an environment with varying compositions. The change of local composition on the dynamics of polymer chains is often ignored when the polymers are dynamic symmetric, or have close glass transition temperature. However, such effect is seldom considered for dynamic asymmetric blends. Moreover, the effect of local composition on the rheological properties is considered by simple linear additive rule in most cases, which has been shown to be improper.
