PHASE SEPARATION MECHANISM OF POLYBUTADIENE /POLYISOPRENE BLENDS UNDER SHEAR FLOW
After some important advancement was obtained in the phase separation of polymer blends in static conditions, researchers gradually turned their attention toward the area of phase transitions under shear field in recent years. For polymer blends of PB (polybutadiene)/PI (polyisoprene), shear-induced mixing has been reported in both oscillatory and steady shear flow, respectively by rheological measurements and shear light scattering observation13. In this report we are trying to establish a frequency dependent phase diagram for PB/PI blends and discuss how the heating rate affects on apparent phase separation temperature by rheological measurements. After that, with an unambiguous phase diagram at a given shear rate, viscoelastic properties of different phase-separating morphology (droplet-matrix or co-continuous) under various phase separation mechanisms (nucleation and growth or spinodal decomposition) can be distinguished by dynamic time sweep tests.
