NONALIGNMENT OF FIBER BREAKS IN FIBER REINFORCED POLYMER COMPOSITES

Stress concentration factor (SCF), which is defined as the ratio between die local stress and the applied stress in the fiber far away from the break, is widely used as a parameter to describe the interaction between a broken fiber and the adjacent fibers quantitatively and conveniently. Most theoretical and numerical methods previously showed that the highest SCF value along the adjacent intact fiber is positioned perpendicular to the initial break. And according to Hedgepeth and van Dykes
