MAIN-CHAIN/SIDE-CHAIN LIQUID CRYSTALLINE POLYMER WITH THE MAIN-CHAIN BASED ON JACKETING CONCEPT

Liquid crystalline (LC) polymers have received long-standing attention for the fundamental researches on their phase structures and transitions and for their applications. The mesogenic groups incorporated in the side-chain LC polymers (SCLCP) can be linked to the backbone via either terminal or lateral attachment. In order to decouple the dynamics of side-chains and backbones, flexible spacers with reasonable length are usually introduced.1 Consequently, the LC properties of SCLCPs are highly dependent on the mesogenic groups. During the past years, we have systematically investigated the syntheses and LC behaviors of a special type of SCLCP, namely, mesogen-jacketed LC polymer (MJLCP) with the waist of rod-like mesogenic groups laterally attached to the flexible backbone via a short linkage or a single carboncarbon bond.
