Production Capability Estimation and Simulation of a Workshop Based on Witness
Nowadays the management and control problems of Maketo-Order (MTO) production enterprises are paid more and more attention. In the paper, the problem of capability estimation for the MTO enterprises is studied based on simulation. It deals with the production orders of different delivery dates based on limited manufacturing resources. The adopted approach is to arrange order production conversely according to delivery dates demanded by customers under infinite capability condition. Then, the equipment capabilities are balanced under limited capability condition. In order to make workshop capability estimation more intuitive and visual, the approach is integrated with simulation theory and tool. The simulation tool adopted herein is Witness that provides the opportunity for a user to estimate the machining capability and resource allocation scheme of a workshop under different conditions. The analysis results lay the foundation for accurate decision-making of orders and scheduling plans. A workshop is taken as the instance to estimate its machining capability that consists of five groups of machines that are used to produce three parts.
