A Polling MAC Scheme for Enhancing QoS Support in Bluetooth Technology
Bluetooth is an emerging technology for constructing Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs). In Bluetooth MAC protocol a classic polling scheme Round Robin(RR) for all master-slave connections. It is very challenging to provide QoS (Quality of Service) support in Bluetooth system. This paper suggest a new polling scheme to enhance QoS support for Bluetooth technology. The QoS classes are differentiated by two access policies in polling scheme. Exhaustive Service policy is used for higher priority slave including key or real-time data to access the channel and Gated Access Policy for other lower priority slaves. A mathematical model for the polling system based on imbedded Markov chain theory and the generation function was used to predict the mean information packet waiting time. The results of mathematical analysis and simulations show that the new scheme can guarantees better QoS and system stability in a simple way.
