Copolymerization modification of pulp fiber grafted by DADMAC under microwave irradiation

The pulp fiber is grafted by cationic monomer of diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride under microwave irradiation. Effects of monomer dosage, initiator dosage, pulp fiber consistency and microwave irradiation time on pulp fiber grafting ratio and the cationic degree are investigated, and the mechanical properties of hand-sheet made from the grafted pulp fiber are tested. It is shown that the grafting ratio and the cationic degree of the pulp fiber increase firstly and decrease afterwards with the increase of monomer dosage, initiator dosage, pulp fiber consistency and microwave irradiation time. High quality cationic pulp can be obtained under the optimized reaction conditions of monomer dosage 0.9%, initiator dosage 0.6%, pulp fiber consistency 12% and microwave irradiation time 3 min. The tensile index, the burst index and the tear index of the hand-sheets made from grafted pulp fiber improve significantly.
