Predicting the breaking strength and strain of jute fibres by Weibull distribution and linear regression
In this paper, jute fibre was degummed by the chemical and enzyme process and then carded by the flat card frame. It has been found that the tensile properties of carded jute were stable at finisher carding process according to our previous study. Therefore, the breaking strength and strain of finisher carded jute at different gauge lengths were investigated by using of linear regression, two-parameter and modified Weibull distribution. The results showed that the breaking strain was more sensitive to the gauge length than the breaking strength, and the distribution of breaking strength of jute fibre followed the modified Weibull model while the jute breaking strain fitted to the 2-parameter Weibull distribution. The modified and 2-parameter Weibull model could respectively predict the breaking strength and strain at short gauge length, which were more accurate than linear regression.
