Ultimate deformation of polyester plain knitted fabrics subjected to biaxial extension
The biaxial tensile ultimate deformation of polyester plain knitted fabrics was investigated. For this purpose, four types of plain knitted fabrics were prepared using polyester filaments with different specifications. These fabrics were tested on a biaxial tensile instrument and subjected to equal biaxial extension (ε x=ε y). Because the ruptures of samples were apt to occur around the clamps and made it difficult to get their ultimate deformations, the experimental stress-strain curves of polyester fabrics during biaxial tensile process were numerically fitted, through which the ultimate deformations of the tested fabrics were predicted. The numerical predictions were found to agree well with the experimental results.
