Influence of transesterification on thermal properties and crystallization of PTT/ ECDP blends
Blends of Poly(trimethylene terephthalate) /cationic dyeable poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PTT/ECDP) in composition of 80/20 (w/w) were prepared with different blending time. Sequence analysis by 13 C-NMR spectroscopy showed that transesterification occurs during PTT/ECDP melt blending. The values of randomness factor B increased with increasing blending time, which revealed these blends were block copolymers. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to investigate thermal properties and crystallization behaviours of the blends. The results showed that the melting temperature (Tm) and the non-isothermal crystallization temperature (Tmc) as well as the crystallization rate decreased with increasing B value, indicating that the extent of transesterification or the degree of randomness had a strong effect on thermal properties and crystallization behaviours of the blends.
