Study on the blending of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3- hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV) and hyperbranched polyesteramide(HBPEA)
Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV) is a family of bacterially derived polyesters. However, its tackiness of monofilament and confined window of processing temperature have limited the processing and application of PHBV fibers. In this paper, the preparation and properties of blended fibers, consisting of a poly(3-Hydroxybutyrate-co-40%-3-hydroxyvalerate) and a hyperbranched polyesteramide(HBPEA) were investigated. With HBPEA, the tackiness of the matrix was decreased significantly. The torque of the blend was tested by the twin-screw extruder. The trend suggested the higher the contents of HBPEA, the lower the viscosity of the matrix. The FTIR spectra showed the presence of intermolecular hydrogen bond (inter-H-bond) between PHBV and HBPEA. The PHBV/HBPEA composite fibers were tried to be spun with different contents of HBPEA from 1wt% to 10wt%. The optimal spinning condition of the PHBV/HBPEA system was selected with 3wt% HBPEA at the drawing ratio of 10. The mechanical properties of the composite fibers were evaluated then. Compared to the PHBV fibers, the breaking strength of the drawn fibers reached 93.76Mpa, improved by 14 times.
