Effect of hyperbranched poly(ester amide) on non-isothermal crystallization of polypropylene

Blends of polypropylene (PP)/hyperbranched poly(ester amide) with various contents (0-5wt%) of hyperbranched poly(ester amide) were prepared on a twin-screw extruder. The non-isothermal crystallization behavior and the crystallization morphology were investigated by DSC and POM. The DSC results showed that crystallization peak temperature (Tc) and the rate of crystallization of PP increased with the addition of hyperbranched poly(ester amide) due to the heterogeneous nucleation effect. The crystallization behavior of PP in the blend and neat PP was evaluated by Jeziory and Mo method. The melting behavior indicated the formation of more crystals with a narrow lamellar thickness distribution. POM confirmed the heterogeneous nucleation effect of hyperbranched poly(ester amide) on PP.
