Determinant material parameters of the performance of PTT/PET side-by-side bicomponent fibers
The main factors that affect the crimp configuration and performance of side-by-side bicomponent fiber included the ratio of elastic modulus and differential shrinkage between two components, the cross-sectional shape of fiber and the components distribution. In this study, the elastic modulus ratio of PTT (Polytrimethylene terephthalate) and PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) components was obtained by the stress-strain curves of three PTT/PET fibers with different cross-sectional shapes and cross-sectional areas of the components. In addition, crimp curvature expressions of the three fibers were developed by the measured cross-sectional data of fibers to get the differential shrinkage between PTT and PET components in their conjugated fibers.
