Study on rheology behavior of modified p-aramid copolymer

In order to improve the solubility of poly(P-Phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA), a modified PPTA copolymer solution was obtained by adding 3,4’-diaminodiphenylether(3,4’-ODA) as third monomer in PPTAs polymerization. The copolymer solution was prepared in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP)/CaCl2 solvent system. The rheological behavior of modified PPTA copolymer solution was studied. The rheological parameters of copolymer solution, such as non-Newton exponent, viscous flow activation energy and structural viscosity index, which can provide an important basis in choosing the spinning process. The results of the study on the rheology indicated that the copolymer solution was shear-thinning fluid, the viscosity of copolymer solution decreased when the shear rate increased. The apparent viscosity of copolymer solution decreased with the increased of temperature. The non-Newton Index increased from 0.6 to 0.8. And the viscous flow activation energy decreased from 40 to 30 with the increase of shear rate.
