Preparation of biodegradable PHBV-g-PGMA-g-PBAT by reactive blend
Two different methods of reactive blending and mechanical blending were used to prepare blends of Biodegradable poly(β -hydroxybutyrate-co-β -hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and Poly(butyleneadipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) blend system. The miscibility, chemical structure, thermal behaviour, crystallinity, morphology, and mechanical properties of the blends were investigated with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and tensile tests. The incorporation of PBAT hampered the crystallization process of PHBV and evidently altered the morphology. The modulus and elongation were not significantly changed by blending between PHBV and PBAT yet enhanced in the reactive blend of PHBV-g-PGMA-g-PBAT.
