Isothermal crystallization and melting behavior for novel cationic dyeable copolyester

A series of novel cationic dyeable copolyesters (MCDP) were synthesized by direct esterification method. Isothermal crystallization and subsequent melting behavior for these copolyesters were carried out in a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) over the crystallization temperature range of 176 ~224 ℃. The crystallization kinetics was assessed by a direct fitting of the experimental data to the Avrami models. It was found that the crystallization rates of these copolyesters decreased as increasing the branched diol content in the molecular chains. The melting of these copolyesters exhibited multiple-melting phenomenon. Lastly, the equilibrium melting temperature for these copolyesters was estimated according to the Hoffman-Weeks extrapolative methods.
