Sound absorption properties of elastomer composites consisting of chlorinated polyethylene and seven-hole hollow polyester fibers

Elastomer composites were prepared by Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) and Seven-hole Hollow Polyester fibers (SHPF) with a specific mass ratio. The sound absorption properties of composites were investigated in this paper. CPE/SHPF elastomer composites had excellent sound absorption properties at medium frequency. It was found that the sound absorption coefficients of CPE/SHPF composite samples with 1 cm thickness are markedly increased with the increasing of the fiber concentration. When the fiber concentration is 20 wt.%, the sound absorption coefficient reached 0.364. Moreover, the sound-absorbing mechanism of the composites was measured by the dynamic mechanical analysis and thermal mechanical analysis. The sound absorption coefficient of CPE/SHPF was inversely associated with its viscoelasticity. This indicated that there were other factors which affected the sound absorption properties. And it was also found that the mechanical properties of composites were increased with the increasing of fiber fraction.
