Study on the spinnability in gel spinning of PAN precursor fiber
The spinnability of pre-gelled polyacrylonitrile (PAN) spinning solution prepared by aging at 25 ℃ was investigated for a new method of gel spinning of PAN precursor fiber. The aging time, the air gap length, and the coagulating conditions have been viewed as the key factors responsible for the spinnability, and were investigated in this study. In addition, the mechanical properties and the cross-section morphology of the as-spun fibers were characterized by tensile testing and optical microscopy. The results showed that the spinnability of pre-gelled PAN spinning solution was influenced by aging time and air gap length, while the coagulation conditions had little influence on its spinnability. The fiber aged for 2 h possessed the highest tensile strength and Youngs modulus as well as circular cross section.
