Effect of solarization on color fastness and mechanical property of colored PMIA fibre
Poly (m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) fiber plays an irreplaceable role in high temperature resistance area. However, it is difficult to dye the PMIA fibers due to their tight molecular structure and high crystallization. In this study, the dope-dyed PMIA fibers with different amount of pigment were prepared by wet-spinning. The color fastness of the colored PMIA fibers was tested, and the mechanical properties of the normal and colored PMIA fibers were compared. The results showed that the properties and structures of colored PMIA fibers were still similar to the uncolored PMIA fibers. The color of the colored PMIA fibers became lighter than as-spun colored PMIA fibers after exposed in simulated sunlight for 50 h. The breaking tenacity of the colored PMIA fibers was higher than 1.7cN/dtex, and its retentivity was above 70% after exposure in simulated sunlight for 50 h.
